Description
In 2055, Alpha Centauri Expedition Freedom 4 leaves Earth to explore the first habitable earth-like exoplanet discovered by humankind. The planet possesses a breathable atmosphere, large landmasses, vast oceans, and abundant life forms.
In 2074, the Freedom 4 returned to Earth with scientific and biologic samples of the planet. The round trip had taken 15 years in Earth's time frame, plus the additional 46 months Freedom 4 had spent studying the new world.
In 2091, the second exploratory ship left Earth to survey the planet, now dubbed Wyzdom in honor of Captain DeWyze, the first starship captain to lay foot on a habitable exoplanet suitable for emigration by humans. In 2092, the International Council of Space Exploration (ICSE) officially names the planet "Wyzdom."
Wyzdom, the third of four planets orbiting Alpha Centauri A, an identical twin of Earth's sun and its nearest stellar neighbor, lies a "scant" 4.3 light-years from Earth. Wyzdom's night sky appears similar to Earth's except that the constellation Cassiopeia contains a new bright star, Earth's sun.
Exoplanet Wyzdom is the first of eight planets available for emigration by all earth citizens as initially depicted in the book "Handbook for Space Pioneers" by L. Stephen Wolfe and Roy L. Wysack.
