Description
This praying mantis was prowling through our flower garden in search of food when it caught this bumblebee and started to eat it. It started to act quite agitated as the camera moved in for a close-up. You can get the creeps when a mantis swivels its head and stares at you with its huge glaring eyes. The mantis is deadly to prey three times it size because it is a well camouflaged, stealthy hunter that has incredible speed of attack and a powerful grip. Its sharply spiked forelegs can penetrate their prey's body and immobilize it while the mantis devours the insect live. Photo credit Karen Varnas, KarenZPhotography.com.
